(Lorenz, Angela) Bologna Sample. Artist’s book by . [Bologna. 1992.] 10.5″ x 8.75″ x 1″. Four 4-page accordion fold sections which fold out from the four double-cover sides of the book. Each section has text in red, with 179 1.25″ x 1″ samples of various colors in which the houses of Bologna are painted. The 179 colors were all painted by hand in watercolor and glued individually onto acid-free paper produced by Cartiere Fedrigoni. Text was lithographed at Stamperia Valdonega in Verona Italy, in Univers. The book is bound in tan cloth with two front sections and two back sections, the second section folding under the first. The spine has a thick orange cord carrying handle. No. 30 in an edition of 50 copies signed by Angela Lorenz. Fine.

“As no previous study has been published, and written references scarce, this information was collected verbally from architects in the town hall, most notable Paolo Nannelli, and from paint store employees, permanent residents and personal observations in locus.” – Colophon.

In the town hall of Bologna there is no visual record of the colors of important buildings …” – Angela Lorenz in the text of the book which is about the history and look of the historical buildings of Bologna.
