Along prose poem handset in Janson types and handprinted on Spanish flax paper. the title page is handlettered and decorated with gold leaf. Twenty-two initial letters handbrushed in various colors. Hand sewn into paper wrappers; title in gilt on front. Housed in a slipcase covered with a pastepaper handmade from anchor line and inlaid with a handcast paper bas-relief of the title page illustration. No. 58 in an edition of 130 copies, numbered and signed by the author, artist and publisher. Fine.
The poem is adapted from the letter Columbus wrote to Ferdinand and Isabella as he sailed past the Azores returning to Spain from his first voyage to the New World. A very beautiful book with luminous monoprints which are particularly attractive. A copy of this book was given to the King of Spain.
