King writes in Cooking the Books: “When we first designed this, John had it made close to his home. Inside we printed a couple of lines which implied that what you read mirrored what you were. The book was placed on a lectern at the entrance to the exhibition. Later, when I decided to edition the work, I simplified the binding, removed the words, and designed the box to hold it safely.”
