A unique book containing a selection of original still images (hence the odd page numbering) from a short animation by Hugo Jones. The selection was intended to be ambiguous but essentially shows the complete story of the original animation, which was made as a part of Hugo’s degree studies. The binding is a contemporary structure by Peter Jones designed to enhance the content of the book. It is constructed from acrylic sheet and wood for the boards with carbon fiber rods and vellum for the spine. Black free endpapers. Laid in a black dropback box with gray trim and black felt lining; paper title label on spine. Signed and dated  in pencil on a free endpaper by both collaborators. Fine. Peter Jones is a member of the British Designer Bookinders. A unique book containing a selection of original still images (hence the odd page numbering) from a short animation by Hugo Jones. The selection was intended to be ambiguous but essentially shows the complete story of the original animation, which was made as a part of Hugo’s degree studies. The binding is a contemporary structure by Peter Jones designed to enhance the content of the book. It is constructed from acrylic sheet and wood for the boards with carbon fiber rods and vellum for the spine. Black free endpapers. Laid in a black dropback box with gray trim and black felt lining; paper title label on spine. Signed and dated  in pencil on a free endpaper by both collaborators. Fine. Peter Jones is a member of the British Designer Bookinders. The selection was intended to be ambiguous but essentially shows the complete story of the original animation, which was made as a part of Hugo’s degree studies. The binding is a contemporary structure by Peter Jones designed to enhance the content of the book. It is constructed from acrylic sheet and wood for the boards with carbon fiber rods and vellum for the spine. Black free endpapers. Laid in a black dropback box with gray trim and black felt lining; paper title label on spine. Signed and dated  in pencil on a free endpaper by both collaborators. Fine. A unique book containing a selection of original still images (hence the odd page numbering) from a short animation by Hugo Jones. The selection was intended to be ambiguous but essentially shows the complete story of the original animation, which was made as a part of Hugo’s degree studies. The binding is a contemporary structure by Peter Jones designed to enhance the content of the book. It is constructed from acrylic sheet and wood for the boards with carbon fiber rods and vellum for the spine. Black free endpapers. Laid in a black dropback box with gray trim and black felt lining; paper title label on spine. Signed and dated  in pencil on a free endpaper by both collaborators. Fine. The selection was intended to be ambiguous but essentially shows the complete story of the original animation, which was made as a part of Hugo’s degree studies. The binding is a contemporary structure by Peter Jones designed to enhance the content of the book. It is constructed from acrylic sheet and wood for the boards with carbon fiber rods and vellum for the spine. Black free endpapers. Laid in a black dropback box with gray trim and black felt lining; paper title label on spine. Signed and dated  in pencil on a free endpaper by both collaborators. Fine. Handcoloring allows each copy to be a slightly different variant. Printed in wood type on pages with a collotype background and then toned with acrylic washes. Green leather spine with gold stamped title. Boards are wood covered in rubbings from the woodcut blocks.  Black cloth dropback box lined with dark green Japanese paper, and with paper title label. One in an edition of 50 copies signed by the artist. A unique book containing a selection of original still images (hence the odd page numbering) from a short animation by Hugo Jones. The selection was intended to be ambiguous but essentially shows the complete story of the original animation, which was made as a part of Hugo’s degree studies. The binding is a contemporary structure by Peter Jones designed to enhance the content of the book. It is constructed from acrylic sheet and wood for the boards with carbon fiber rods and vellum for the spine. Black free endpapers. Laid in a black dropback box with gray trim and black felt lining; paper title label on spine. Signed and dated  in pencil on a free endpaper by both collaborators. Fine. Peter Jones is a member of the British Designer Bookinders. Signed and dated in pencil on the rear doublure. Fine. Grey writes: These books were found when searching for something to fit in with the 'British Classics' theme of the exhibition. The illustrations are rather stylised, so the covering veneer was chosen to echo the boldness of those lines. The 'Tales' are told by pilgrims to while away the time when travelling to Canterbury, and the simple arrow forms on the covers symbolise their journey there and back again. Although the often bawdy tales don't always have a moral behind them, the pilgrimage is a religious one, and this is hinted at in the design as the arrow shapes and spine form a cross when the book is opened."
