The illustrations by Peter Malutzki are made up of, among other things, brassrules, zinc plates of photographs, linocuts, wood type, a piece of a German newspaper from 1852 and a bit of genuine gold leaf. Bound in dark gray linen over board with embedded darning needle on the front board and a pick and a yellow shape with a black arrow and blue bracket shape forming the design. Paper title label on spine. One in an edition of 135 copies, signed by Malutzki. Fine.

The darning needle in Andersen’s tale “tries to hold her own as she is shunted from a maid’s apron into a kitchen sink”.

This book is one of Malutzki’s first artist’s books.
